The, "more guarenteed" bit is interesting, like he thought since you had been friends for a long time you were guarenteed to be okay with dating him or guarenteed to move quickly from friend activities to dating activities. When you go on a blind date things tend not to move as fast as when you are dating a trusted friend. More guarenteed than what he had with his current ex? Maybe his current ex was playing hard to get more than you do? Not knowing the three of you as people, I don't know but it sounds like he's sizing the two of you up like racehorses. Like, he's seen a horse since it was a colt (you) so he knows its nature and capabilities. Versus a horse that was sold to him in its third year (the ex.) Does not sound like he still has feelings for his ex from this statement.
